According to the famous global food guide TasteAtlas, Turkish dondurma (ice cream) has been named the number one "best cold dessert in the world."
The site specifically chose "Maraş dondurma" (also called dövme dondurma), which is made using the traditional Kahramanmaraş method. It got the top spot thanks to its natural ingredients and unique flavor.

This isn't the first time Turkish cuisine has gotten the recognition it deserves from TasteAtlas, a site dedicated to discovering local flavors and preserving global food heritage for future generations.
Dondurma, which is super popular all over Turkey, topped the list and was chosen as the "best frozen dessert in the world," making it a summer favorite.
Maraş dondurma is made from goat's milk, salep powder, and other natural flavors. Since the goats graze on aromatic plants like thyme, hyacinth, and astragalus in the Ahir Mountains, their milk gives the dondurma its special taste. The salep, which comes from wild orchid roots, adds a unique texture and flavor to the dessert.
Coming in second on the list was "Frozen Custard" from the U.S. This dessert is similar to ice cream but contains eggs, giving it a smoother texture.
In third place was the famous Italian dessert, "Pistachio Gelato."
The list included a total of 50 different cold desserts, with Turkey being represented only by dondurma. Meanwhile, Italy dominated the list with several different types of gelato.
