Is Turkey Cancelling Tourist Residency?!
Some Turkish media reports have revealed that the immigration authorities have started imposing new conditions on foreigners wishing to stay in the country for more than a year for tourism purposes.
According to the reports, immigration authorities have begun to require holders of tourist residency to sign a document committing them to obtain a work permit if they wish to stay for more than a year.
In addition to this, family breadwinners are required to obtain a work permit, while the rest of the family members are granted family residencies.
The obligations of the document, as reported by Turkish media outlets, also include applying for a work permit. If the conditions are not suitable for applying for a work permit, the resident can request an extension of the residency for tourism purposes.
If the extension is requested for the same reason within 6 months from the expiry date of the residency permit, they must prove an income equivalent to 1.5 times the minimum wage per family member, through a bank account operating in Turkey.
