A new step for those awaiting exceptional Turkish citizenship
Turkish media revealed an additional step in the procedures for granting exceptional Turkish citizenship, which combines the "Archives" and "Service" phases.
Media outlets clarified that most applicants for exceptional Turkish citizenship have been transferred to a new phase that did not exist before. In this phase, the archives related to the citizenship application are sent to the relevant institution for further research, indicating the continuation of the evaluation and research process.
What distinguishes this new phase is the absence of the word "exceptional" from the message received by the applicants. This word was mentioned in previous stages. Thus, the evaluation process continues to be exceptional, but without using the same word in the message.
This step is part of the seven stages that applicants for exceptional Turkish citizenship must go through, which began at the beginning of 2016.
The fourth stage includes two types: Archives and Service, which involve "security checks" exposing the candidate's file for naturalization to all security and judicial institutions. This stage is considered one of the longest, sometimes extending for more than two years.
