Turkish Breakfast Tops the List of "100 Best Breakfasts in the World"
Turkish breakfast has officially claimed the number one spot on TasteAtlas' list of the “100 Best Breakfasts in the World” for June 2025.
Scoring an impressive 4.8 out of 5, the traditional Turkish breakfast beat out dozens of morning dishes from all over the globe.
TasteAtlas highlighted the wide variety of items in a Turkish breakfast—everything from cheeses, olives, eggs, tomatoes, cucumbers, jams, butter, and honey, to freshly baked bread and the famous Turkish tea. It’s a full-on feast that’s both filling and packed with local flavor and warm hospitality.
The list also featured other Turkish favorites:
-
Lentil soup (Mercimek Çorbası) came in at number 12, loved for its deep flavor, nutritional value, and popularity in winter breakfasts.
-
Bal Kaymak—a creamy combo of clotted cream and honey made from cow or buffalo milk—ranked 28th. It’s a luxurious treat on Turkish breakfast tables.
-
And Börek, the flaky, stuffed pastry, landed at number 43. It’s a staple in Turkish breakfasts and is well-loved both in Turkey and abroad.
One of the key reasons Turkish breakfast topped the global list is the famous Van Breakfast, which includes over 20 different kinds of local, natural dishes. It even made it into the Guinness World Records, and now the first Sunday of June is celebrated worldwide as Breakfast Day in its honor.
