Discovery of 26 historical mosque sites in the Fatih area of Istanbul
Turkish authorities in the Istanbul province have discovered 26 historical mosque sites in the Fatih area during recent excavation operations in the region.
Local authorities explained that the historical mosque sites were found underground.
Currently, the process of reconstructing these mosques is underway using the architectural designs that existed 100 years ago, based on available historical photographs and maps.
The Fatih area is considered the vibrant heart of Istanbul, located in the city center and distinguished by its geographic and strategic location. It is bordered by the Golden Horn to the north and overlooks the Sea of Marmara to the south. Additionally, the western boundaries of Fatih are defined by the walls of Constantinople, which remain standing to this day.
