Erdogan Inaugurates People's Park on the Site of Istanbul's Ataturk Airport
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan inaugurated "People's Park," built on the site of the former Ataturk Airport in Istanbul, making it ready to welcome visitors and serve the city's residents.
The park covers an area of 5,061,000 square meters and includes 145,300 trees and saplings, a symbolic reference to 1453, the year Istanbul was conquered.
Erdogan shared a video showing the first glimpses inside the park, which features expansive green spaces and areas designated for families and social activities.
Atataturk Airport ceased receiving international flights on April 6, 2019, after air operations were transferred to the new Istanbul Airport, which opened in October 2018.
