Sakarya Launches Its First Metrobus After Istanbul
The city of Sakarya has just launched its very first metrobus line, becoming the second city in Turkey to introduce this fast public transport system after Istanbul.
The project cost 1.2 billion lira and is expected to serve over a million residents.
According to the city officials, the first phase of the route stretches 16.5 kilometers, running between Camili and Station Square.
A total of 11 brand-new metrobuses will run on the line, each able to carry up to 220 passengers. These buses come equipped with advanced safety systems that detect pedestrians and blind spots.
The city announced that rides will be free until the new school year begins, and emphasized that the entire project was funded by the Sakarya Municipality — with no external financial support.
Metrobuses have already proven successful in Istanbul by easing traffic congestion, and now Sakarya hopes to see the same results with this modern system.
