Istanbul police said they arrested a man who fired shots near the Israeli Consulate.
Authorities confirmed the shooter was taken into custody and that no one was hurt, and the consulate building wasn’t damaged.
The governor’s office said shots were heard around 2:30 PM local time in the area surrounding the Israeli consulate.
Initial investigations identified the suspect as a man named “B.K.”. The anti-terrorism unit tracked him down and arrested him.
According to security sources, the man showed up near the consulate carrying a modified "Krosiko" pistol and a sword. He fired five shots into the air while shouting “I don’t want Israel!”
Turns out the suspect is 56 years old and has a criminal record with seven previous charges, including assault, causing injury, illegal possession of a weapon, violating intellectual property laws, providing harmful substances, and verbal abuse.
When he was arrested, police found a silver-and-black handgun, a sword, and a magazine of bullets on him. Three shell casings, likely from his gun, were also found at the scene.
