Protests Near Türkiye's Ambarli Port Over Israeli Containers
A group of Turkish citizens staged a sit-in early Saturday in front of Ambarlı Port in Istanbul, Türkiye, following reports of containers arriving for the Israeli company "ZIM."
Clashes broke out between port security guards and Turkish protesters objecting to the presence of a ship carrying military cargo destined for Israel.
Footage showed Turkish police deploying pepper spray to prevent demonstrators from reaching the port's dock.
According to press sources, the protesters halted several containers at Ambarlı Port that were destined for Haifa Port. They obstructed the movement of trucks carrying the containers to prevent their loading.
In mid-May, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced the suspension of trade with the "Zionist regime." However, it was later revealed that some businessmen and traders continued conducting business with Israeli entities. A three-month deadline was given to ship their goods.
Unofficial sources indicated that after this period, traders resumed sending goods, which were reportedly transported to Israeli ports via third countries.
The police resorted to aerial interventions to clear the path for the containers and disperse the protesters, preventing them from approaching the shipment.
