Official holiday on the occasion of Labor Day in Turkey next Wednesday
The Turkish government has announced an official holiday that includes all government institutions, schools, universities, and hospitals on Wednesday, May 1, on the occasion of Labor Day.
The government exempted emergency departments and banks from the holiday.
Under this holiday, all government and private institutions will stop working on Wednesday, and the government hopes that all citizens will enjoy a comfortable and enjoyable vacation period, combining rest, entertainment, and celebration of the spirit of work and dedication.
Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya had confirmed that Taksim Square in central Istanbul is not the appropriate place to organize Labor Day demonstrations and protests.
During a press conference today, Monday, Ali Yerlikaya added: "We will not grant permission to labor unions to organize gatherings, demonstrations, and events on May 1 in Taksim Square in central Istanbul to commemorate this occasion."
He continued: "Other places in Istanbul must be chosen to carry out the events of this occasion."
