The Supreme Electoral Committee in Turkey announced the preliminary results of the local elections, which resulted in the opposition Republican People's Party winning in 35 municipalities, and the ruling People's Alliance winning in 24 municipalities.
The head of the Supreme Electoral Committee stated that the Democracy and Equality Party won in 10 municipalities, the Nationalist Movement Party in 8 municipalities, and the Welfare Party again won in two municipalities.
Additionally, the Grand Union Party won in one municipality, and the Good Party (opposition) won in one municipality, according to the preliminary results of the Turkish municipal elections.
Voting took place in municipal elections in Turkey yesterday, Sunday, and according to preliminary data, opposition mayors in the major cities (Ankara, Istanbul, and Izmir) retained their positions, and the Turkish opposition Republican People's Party surpassed the ruling Justice and Development Party for the first time in 20 years.
