After losing the local elections, Erdogan pledges to continue his economic agenda

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan acknowledged his defeat in the Turkish local elections and pledged to continue implementing his economic agenda.

Erdogan, speaking from the balcony of the ruling party's headquarters in Ankara, said the election results "constitute a turning point" for his party, which has been in power for two decades.

He explained that the Justice and Development Party did not achieve what it had hoped for in the local elections held on Sunday.

The Turkish president pledged to analyze the election results, affirming that his party would engage in self-criticism transparently and courageously and work to correct mistakes.

He also emphasized his commitment to continuing with his economic agenda despite the unexpected defeat in the local elections nationwide.

Erdogan pledged to give his economic team more time to implement measures aimed at reversing economic contraction, expressing optimism about seeing positive results in the latter half of the year.

The election results, after counting the votes from various regions of Turkey with a population of 85 million, showed the Republican People's Party ahead of the Justice and Development Party led by Erdogan.

Opposition candidates have advanced in the three major Turkish cities (Istanbul, Ankara, and Izmir) after the ballot counting in the municipal elections.
