Turkey’s Interior Ministry has revealed the identities of the attackers who targeted the Israeli consulate in Istanbul earlier today.
In an official statement, the ministry said that one of the attackers, identified as “Yunus E.S.”, was killed during a shootout with Turkish police.
The other two suspects, “Onur G.” and “Enes G.”, who are brothers, were arrested while injured. It was also reported that Onur has a prior record related to drug offenses.
Investigations showed that the three gunmen had traveled to Istanbul from the city of Izmit in a rented car. Authorities also found extensive digital communication between the three attackers. The injured suspects are still being questioned.
Meanwhile, the Turkish Presidency’s Directorate of Communications stated that the quick and decisive response by security forces prevented a larger threat. They confirmed that the attackers’ identities have been established and that an investigation is ongoing.
The statement also wished a speedy recovery to the two police officers who were lightly injured during the clash, and praised all police personnel for their dedication to maintaining the country’s safety and security.
Earlier, Turkish media reported that the Israeli Consulate General in the Levent district of Istanbul received reports of gunfire this morning, prompting the deployment of multiple police units to the scene.
Security sources reported that three people were killed and others injured in a shooting near the Israeli Consulate in Istanbul, adding that one injured person was arrested.
