Türkiye announces the discovery of massive oil reserves in the east of the country
Turkish Energy Minister Alb Arslan Bergekdal announced the discovery of massive oil reserves in the Gabar Mountain area in Şırnak, eastern Turkey.
During a speech at Ibn Khaldun University in Istanbul, Bergekdal said, "We are producing 40,000 barrels of oil per day in Gabar. This number will soon reach 100,000."
He added, "Turkey will meet 20 percent of its oil needs from its local sources by 2025."
The Energy Minister also clarified that the daily gas production from the Sakarya field in the Black Sea reached 4.5 million cubic meters.
He noted, "This amount means meeting the needs of around 1.8 million households."
Turkey announced in late 2022 the discovery of an additional 170 billion cubic meters of natural gas in the Black Sea, bringing the total size of discoveries to 710 billion.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced on December 12, 2022, the discovery of an oil field with reserves of 150 million barrels in the Gabar Mountain in the Şırnak province in the east of the country.
