Turkiye enters the electoral silence period in preparation for local elections
Throughout Turkey, the electoral silence period commenced on Saturday, in preparation for the local elections scheduled for tomorrow, Sunday, March 31, 2024.
The country entered the electoral silence period from 6:00 PM today, Saturday, until 9:00 PM on Election Day.
According to Article 49 of Law No. 298 regarding the basic provisions of elections and voter registers, the campaign period begins 10 days before the election date and ends at 6:00 PM on the day prior to the elections, marking the beginning of the electoral silence period.
Meanwhile, the Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK) in Turkey announced a ban on any party advertising on radio and television channels, as well as news related to election results, except those announced by the Supreme Election Council.
Starting from 9:00 PM on Election Day, the electoral publication ban is lifted. The Supreme Election Council may decide to lift the ban before 9:00 PM if deemed necessary.
In accordance with the Supreme Election Council's decision, the sale and consumption of alcoholic beverages in public places are prohibited from 6:00 AM on Election Day until midnight.
Additionally, carrying weapons is prohibited for anyone other than security forces and those tasked with public security protection.
