Turkey Aims to Make Istanbul Airport the First to Operate on Solar Power
The Turkish government is aiming for a historic achievement by transforming Istanbul Airport into the world's first airport to operate entirely on solar power.
This project is part of the Turkish government's efforts to transition to clean and renewable energy sources.
According to the Turkish government, the initiative involves installing 439,000 photovoltaic panels with a capacity of 199.32 megawatts in the Turkish province of Aksaray. This project occupies an area of approximately 3 million square meters, and operations are expected to begin by the end of the current year.
The planned station is expected to generate 340 million kilowatt-hours of solar energy annually, contributing to reducing carbon emissions and preserving the environment.
This project represents a significant step towards achieving environmental sustainability and promoting the use of renewable energy sources.
Salahaddin Bilgin, the airport's deputy CEO, emphasized that this step reflects Istanbul Airport's commitment to providing the best in sustainability and environmental preservation.
Bilgin explained that transitioning the airport to rely on solar energy contributes to achieving the Turkish government's goals in the field of renewable energy and the environment.
