Turkish trade bans the export of (chicken, onions, and potatoes) to lower their prices
The Turkish Ministry of Trade issued a decision on Friday to ban the export of chicken, onions, and potatoes abroad as part of its efforts to address their recent price hikes.
This measure is part of a strategic context aimed at reducing pressure on local prices and providing economic stability for citizens.
The Turkish Ministry of Trade published a list of goods allowed for export and prohibited goods, indicating that chicken, potatoes, and onions are among the prohibited goods for export.
The ministry noted in its circular that producers wishing to export these products would need to apply to the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry for consideration.
Food prices witnessed unprecedented increases in 2018 amid the crisis that hit the Turkish lira, which lost 30% of its value that year. Onions and potatoes were the two most affected items, recording increases of 85% and 64% respectively.
