Turkish authorities have announced the implementation of new measures aimed at reducing smoking on beaches, as part of an initiative to create a healthier environment for families, children, and tourists.
The decision comes under a project focused on reducing cigarette-related waste and preserving the cleanliness and appearance of coastal areas.
The initiative has already been launched at a number of beaches across Turkey, where designated smoke-free zones have been established. Informational signs have also been installed to inform visitors about the new rules.
The move is intended to protect non-smokers from exposure to secondhand smoke, particularly children and elderly people.
Authorities also hope to reduce environmental and visual pollution caused by cigarette butts, which often end up in the sand or in the sea.
In addition to its environmental benefits, the initiative aims to improve public health and enhance the overall beach experience for visitors.
Officials stated that violations of the new regulations may result in administrative penalties under relevant Turkish laws, as part of efforts to ensure compliance and achieve the objectives of the initiative.
