Türkiye : Increase in the Maximum Limit for Contactless Payments via Bank Cards
The Turkish government has announced an increase in the maximum limit for contactless payments, known as "Temassız," through bank cards to 1500 Turkish lira per day.
The government explained that the decision will come into effect starting from the first of May.
The transaction limit for contactless payments, which allow payment via cards and mobile devices without the need for any physical contact, has been raised.
According to a message sent to banks by the Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency (BDDK), the transaction limit without a password for contactless payments was updated to 750 lira on July 1, 2022, after two years.
The transaction limit without a password will be 1500 lira as of July 1, 2024.
This decision is part of the government's efforts to enhance the digital economy, stimulate reliance on digital financial services, encourage more electronic transactions, and promote the shift towards a digital cashless society.
