The Turkish government has announced that the Eid al-Adha holiday will be extended to a full nine consecutive days.
The decision aims to give citizens more time to spend with their families and to boost domestic tourism.
The announcement came after a cabinet meeting with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. He stated that one and a half extra days were added to the original holiday schedule, which was set to begin on the afternoon of Tuesday, May 26. As a result, Monday and Tuesday will be considered administrative leave.
This means the official holiday period will run from May 23 to May 31.
President Erdoğan also shared new details about the Family and Youth Fund. He announced that couples preparing for marriage will be offered low-interest loans ranging from 200,000 to 250,000 Turkish lira.
He added that if the couple has their second child while they are still repaying the loan, the remaining installments will be canceled and converted into a non-repayable grant.
On another note, Erdoğan said that inflation in April reached 4.18%, noting that the global rise in fuel prices continues to put strong pressure on prices inside Turkey.
He stressed that the government remains determined to fight inflation without backing down, saying: “Even though we are going against the wind in our battle against inflation, our determination is strong. We will not give in to pessimism or listen to those who try to discourage us.”
